In a surprise move, Beyonce could be the next superstar to visit a courtroom this year. According to Chicago Sun Times reports, the “Video Phone” singer may testify in a case stemming from an alleged copyright infringement.
Sources say Beyonce, then working and later promoting the last Destiny’s Child album “Destiny Fulfilled,” is accused of lifting the idea for the hit single “Cater 2 U” from a song composed by singer/songwriter Rickey Allen.
Allen originally filed suit in 2006 over claims that he first copyrighted the song, allegedly of the same title, in the mid-1990s. Allen later claimed he handed over a version of his song to producer Maurice Joshua, who is said to have later worked with Destiny’s Child.
The case has long been delayed but is now slated to move forward December 10 with Beyonce on the stand to testify.
A statement from a legal filing says “she (Beyonce) is perhaps the most important witness for the defendants”.
