Hip Hop Weekly’s Drama in the “A”!
It seems like Benzino and his homies are in for some trouble at BET’s Hip Hop Awards:
A horde of freelance photographers and writers are planning a protest outside the program to rail against Source founder and Hip Hop Weekly magazine owner David Mays for not paying them.
The writers and photogs are talking about a class-action lawsuit against Mays and Hip Hop Weekly to try to get their cash.
But it seems like Mays could care less.
To add insult to nonpayment, Mays invited the spurned freelancers to last night’s Hip Hop Weekly 50th issue party at the Park West Club in Miami
Celebrity photo agency Splash responded nastily to the mag’s photo editor, Devin Hall:
“Sounds great, will you have a check for the $15,000.00 (plus interest) you still owe Splash and its photographers from last year? Or is this another one of your ever-increasing debts you have no intention of paying?”
Another angry photog wrote back to Mays and Hall saying, “Are you kidding me? I have yet to receive money, and your sending an invite to celebrate?” Mays did not respond to requests for comment.
