Famed editor-in-chief of Essence magazine, Susan L. Taylor, was honored last night in a private celebration for her 37 years of service. The event, hosted by Oprah Winfrey, featured appearances from popular celebs like Common, Yolanda Adams, Al Sharpton, amongst others.
Proceeds from the ceremony will benefit the National CARES Mentoring Movement that is dedicated to pairing vulnerable African-American children with a caring mentor. National CARES, which was founded by Taylor as Essence CARES, currently operates in more than 50 U.S. states.
