Say What: Subscriber Sues Defunct Vibe Magazine!

TI and Vibe editor Danyel Smith

The fact that Vibe Magazine closed its doors due to financial woes does not change the fact that its subscribers paid for issues they will never receive. That statement and a few others are now at the center of a federal lawsuit filed by an Alabama man.

“As the magazine was quietly closing up the shop, the Vibe website continued to contain links to advertisements enticing customers to purchase subscriptions to the magazine,” the lawsuit says, naming Vibe Media Group as a defendant along with unnamed people associated with the magazine. Vibe should have “publicly disclosed to subscribers that it was teetering on the brink of insolvency,” documents read according to Reuters.

Subscriptions for Vibe were said to be valued at or between $9.95 and $14.95.

Earlier this year, subscribers of Conde Nast Portfolio were informed of the magazine’s shuttering and were given the option to either receive Details magazine or some form of compensation for remaining issues.
