“Even if you have a big hit record like ‘P.I.M.P’ they still want the ‘Crimewave’ record. They still want that record that feels like the environment I grew up in feels like” – 50 Cent, Bang Showbiz.
According to Bang Showbiz, 50 Cent feels almost compelled to record tracks like “Crimewave” and other more violent records simply because ‘the people’ want it. While the rapper has long dabbled in pop and R&B on records like “Ayo Technology” or “So Amazing,” he says he can’t shy away from pleasing fans even if he’s moved on from that lifestyle….
“For a certain audience some guys can just make straight pop records and it will go to a 40 or 50 million audience and they can just be happy, like their records. But because the public has assessed me in a certain way, they expect from me to have that kind of aggression that ‘Crimewave’ embodies,” says 50 Cent. “And they are looking for that. Even if you have a big hit record like ‘P.I.M.P’ they still want the ‘Crimewave’ record, they still want that record that feels like the environment I grew up in feels like.”
“It doesn’t put pressure on me because I have assessed it. If they place those standards on you, you got to make the adjustments.”
50 cent is due to release ‘Before I Self Destruct’ this month.
