In a surprise move Essence magazine and organizers for its annual Essence Music Festival in New Orleans have decided to move up ticket sales !
Not just moved up by a few weeks, tickets for the 2010 (and 40th anniversary) Essence Music Festival went on sale Monday, November 9 and will remain available for purchase through December 18.
“The success of this year’s ESSENCE MUSIC FESTIVAL has been overwhelming, with 428,000 attendees this past Fourth of July weekend,” said Michelle Ebanks, president, Essence Communications Inc. in a statement. “We are so grateful to our loyal audience for their support in making this happen. That is why, in honor of the 40th anniversary of ESSENCE magazine, we are offering our special weekend ticket packages for our most valued patrons. It is our way of saying thank you for their years of unwavering dedication to the ESSENCE brand.”
In July the Essence Music festival featured performances from Maxwell, Al Green, Ne-Yo, Beyonce and more. It also featured special events with Steve Harvey, TD Jakes, cast of The Real Housewives of Atlanta and more.

Essence sure has a funny way of saying “thank you” to their supporters by drastically raising the ticket prices. For 2009 I paid $280 for floor seats for all 3 nights, but the same tickets for 2010 are $460! That is pure craziness. I’ve been to the EMF two years in a row and had every intention of going back next year, but I refuse to pay a fortune for those concert tickets when there is nobody left to see worth paying that much for. For $460 I can spend 4 nights at an all-inclusive resort in Jamaica! Hopefully Essence will realize that it was a big mistake to charge such outrageous prices!
