I thought when i had my kids i said to self that they wouldn’t know life struggles so fast in their life,but this world we living in make it impossible to shield them. My name is Natilia Phillips and I have a 4yr old daughter name Makahia Tolbert. I had gotten pregnant with my daughter after my mom died in June 2004. It has been a struggle with raising my child by myself and barley with some help from her father. I went back to school and got a degree in Medical Assistant that only took 10 months. I trying to do the best that I can with raising my child but it is hard at times with some emotional stress. I want to further my degree in Physical Therapist Assistant, so that I can be financial stable enough to support my child in things that she need in her life.
When I was 8 month pregnant,my great uncle on my mother side, came down and change the lock to the family house while I was stay their with my stuff still in the house. I had to live with someone until my aunt came down from Detroit and set me up with my own apartment. I was working at the time at Wal-mart and was going to school with a child that was some months. The company cut my hours while going to school and I couldn’t afford rent at the time. I had to move in with someone who I thought was a friend at the time but she wasn’t who I thought she was at all. I had some transition in my life while taking care of my child but God has taking care me and my child. If it had not been for God stepping in and taking care of me through my trials and tribulation, I don’t know what I would have done I am grateful that God has place my child in my life to make me do better and to become a better mother.I hope that through my struggle that I accomplish finishing school when I start in January 2010.I pray to God that he will direct my steps and that he teach me how to raise my child to become a independent women with the help of God. Hello 50, I have 2 children and they are 16 and 13 yrs. Last year June, my house got hit by a car and my kids were inside the house I rushed home in my daughter and son were alright. It is now November and I am still struggling to get the house fixed. After that I got fired from my job of fifteen years all because of a lie. Just a couple months after that my dog had to have his left eye surgically removed. I was hurt but I am trying to pull through this mess without any help from the father of my children who lives 10 minutes away. Whom fails to get a job after I have asked him repeatedly to get a job, I have even set up interviews for him. Lately I have gotten in a car crash and car insurance will not repair my car though it was not my fought. So I am managing to get around with one head light. I thank God, but I would love to get around at night without worrying about the police pulling me over. well, my mom was born on September 23rd, in 1972. She was the first born chil. At the age 13, she got pregnant wuth her first child. Her son had everything he neededbecause of my grandmother. her baby’s father had lefted her and her son. and even though they were young, he still could’ve been there for her and his son.
At the age of 16, my mom had her second child. By that time her first child was three years old. Her second child’s father was there for a couple of years. Around that time, my mother was working and so was her baby’s father.My grandmother put my mother out of her house so my my mom was forced to go out and find her own house.
My mother was still in high school until she reached the age 19. She was pregnant with me. By that time she had her own house and her own job. She had me and my second brothers’ father helping her. Then me and my brothers’ father was arrested. So then, it was just my mother, me and my two brothers.
When my mother turned 22 years old, she had her fourth child. His father wasn’t around at all either because he had lefted and started a new family.He haven’t seen my brother until he reached the age 12. When he saw my brother, he gave him $4.00, and after that, my brother haven’t seen him since then.
When my mother turned 25 years old, she had her fifth child. Her father wasn’t around either. The first time my sister seen her father, she was 10 yers old. Now she’s 11 years old.Now its five kids and no fathers around.
My mother met this guy and they fell in love and when my mother turned 32 years old, she had her sixed child. Everything was cool for a while. The guy she met cheated on her, so my mom broked up with him. Now it was six kids, one mother and no fathers, whicjh usually meant no child support.
My oldest brother got locked up. He’s in and out of jail. My second oldest brother moved out when he was 16 years old. My mother’s children are now; 23,20,17,14,11, and 5 years old. She have two grand- daughters. One is 2 years old and the other one is about 2 weeks.
My brother, 23, didn’t finish high school because he was too deep into the streets. My other brother, 20, didn’t finish high school either because he was too busy working job to job trying to help my mom out with the bills. I’m in the 11th grade right now, I graduate in 2011. I would be the first to graduate hogh school. I’m very smart and would love to go to college, but I don’t know whether or not if I would be able to afford it. Especially with the economy being so bad and everything, its hard for me to find a job.
My mother had a job, she was working at Regency Janitorial Services. She was getting paid $7.25 a hour. She didn’t like the job, but she had to do what she had to do to make it. The job had to let my mom go due to all of the budget cuts.
My mom went out searching for a job, she found one at the Iron Horse Hotel. She was making $10.25 a hour. She went to work the first and second day, but while driving home, my mom was in a car accident. It wasn’t her fault though. She was driving home and a man in a near by car was driving. He couldn’t see because of the sun was in his face. He tried to get over and ran into my mom’s car. Her spent around twice with her in it. Then it hit a pole. Thank God for seat belts and thank God she was wearing it.
Her neck and back was very sore. She had to go see a physical therapist but her insurance only paid so much for her physical therapy, so basically she didn’t have enough time to heal. She was just concentrating on getting better to go back to work so that she could take care of her kids and pay her bills.
One day her job called her in told her that they had to let her go. Since then, she haven’t been working. She’s on rent assistance so if you don’t have a job, then your rent is free. She get food stamps so we’re good on food. My mom sells her food stamps to get cash to buy us the things we need for school. She still tries to send my brother money while he’s in jail and she helps my other brother out with his rent.
My youngest brothers’ father sends my mom money every once in a blue moon. And she gets help from her mother. But if she can’t count on them, then who is going to help her?

Being a mother is an honor and a badge that I wear proudly. My daughter is my world, my heart and most importantly, my motivation. With both my mother and father being absent from my life due to their incarceration since I was seven-years-old, I often felt neglected, having to go through several new and confusing situations, such as motherhood by myself. The children that did not make it back to their families I adopted (3) and I gave birth to 3. I work for the school district as a financial secretary. I just found out that my assistance with child care will be cut as of December because I make $9.00 a month to much. I am now 28 years old and I have been taking care of the family since I turned 18. I have been known to overcome alot of obstacles in my life. I went through high school with the thought of losing everything that I thought mattered as a young teen. I then went to college and found what I thought was a great job. In December 2008, I lost my job due to the economy and has left me and the family stranded and looking for all the help I could recieve. I have put in 97 applications since my job terminated me and have not even received an interview. I am currently a single mom unemplyed and could really use your help this holiday season if the Lord’s will. Both of my parents died before I was 18 and my sisters are both uncapable of taking care of their kids. I wish I could find work, but it appears that there is none in the city of richmond VA. hello my name is jessica and i am a single mother of 2 little angel babies, Sofia and Gabe. My husband and I were together for a very long time, but shortly after we got married and started a family, he was deported. He was brought here as a baby and lived here for 23 years, graduating high school, going to college and working 2 full time jobs. So for him to be deported after all that just hurts so bad. I wasnt working when he still lived down here because i was a full time mom, so i had no job when he was deported. I have tried and tried to find a job but no one will hire me because of this economic struggle we are in. I have tried 4 times to live in mexico, but its too big of a risk for my children and I. We have gotten so sick from the food alone, not to mention the bottled water that is suppose to be purified. So I have continued to look for work, but still no luck. I am so hurt that my children have to go through this and I have no way to make it better right now. As of last february, I had to sell my car to pay a $635.00 phone bill because I wasnt fully aware of how expensive it was to talk to my husband on the phone for 15 minutes a day. I am barely getting by as a mother of 2 and I have tried for government assistance, but they refuse to give me anything more than medical and food stamps. Believe me, I am more than greatful for that, but the fact is that doesnt pay for clothes for my babies who are in desperate need of new ones because they are growing so quickly. My name is Tamika everyone ca my Meka am 31 years old I have 1ittle girl I have raise 4 kids that are my sitter and bother kids since I was 19 years old I never had a teenage life I had to take care of my father was is disable and work 2 jobs then my sitter got of jail and had a car reak with a 18 wheeler and they wanted to pull the pug on her but god pull her threw and then she came home after 4 mouths in the hospital then I to take care of her for about a year with all the help from the dr and all she learning how to walk all over again she got better and we got her apartment now that. Hey 50, my name is Loleather everybody calls me LeLe, I’m 46 years old, I’ve been a single mother for a long, long time (lol), I’ve always loved raising my kids on my own with GODS help I have raised 6 children, 3 GIRLS 3 BOYS ages 29,26,24,22,20,and 15 still working on the last one, I think I did a great job until my recent misfortune, within the last two years four months, I lost one of my sons,he was 18 then, and almost my own life, both in car accidents that were seven months apart first him then me, and by the grace of GOD I’m still here, trying to recover, I haven’t been able to work because of the accident, I’m in therapy now hoping that I can return to work real soon, I have always worked since my first child, she is 29 years old, its pretty hard to ask for help when you’ve been taking care of everything on your own, my life is so complicated, but I won’t go into that, I’ll just say this, I’m in dept now, and the bills are hard to keep up with so if there is any way that I may be one of your winners I will appreciate it. Through her faith and prayers God has provided, but I feel so sorry for her because she had no help and doesn’t know how she will be able to give her girls a christmas this year. She is a very strong woman and always look out for other people even though she doesn’t have it she still give her last. Hey my name is Latonya and I wrote an essay a few days ago but I don’t think it went through. I am a single mom of 4 beautiful children and I attend school. It has really been hard with no job, I lost my job last Oct. and has been unemployed ever since. I have been praying over and over for a financial breakthrough because I have no help with my children, but I know God will provide.
