Say What: Brandy Signing Deal With Def Jam ?
Is Brandy seriously joining Amerie, Janet Jackson and more as the latest R&B songbird to give Def Jam a try ?
Sources claim The-Dream (“Love King’) confirmed that Brandy was in talks with the label on a popular radio show earlier this week…
We’ll wait and see what happens…. ironically, Brandy had this to say about signing with another label after parting ways with Epic last year.
“”At this stage in my career … I want to go all around the world and share my music with everybody but I can’t do that without the right team. I think at this point, where the music industry is, you get afraid to spend more money (on promotion)…. I just feel like for me, I just really wanted to win. I still want to win, but that’s just not the way the universe works sometime….”
that wouldn’t be a good move. the only people on def jam who are moving big numbers are rihanna and ne-yo, so she wouldn’t be close to a top priority. i wish she would talk to amerie, janet, mariah, etc. and see how def jam’s team is.
this would be a terrible move, and i hope it’s not true. R&B/pop just does not do well at Def Jam lately. this would be one of the last labels i’d sign with. she’s better off with some type of independent deal, one where she has ownership of her material, and more direction over the course of her project. moving from major label to major label as she and others have is simply a bad look all around.
